Jim Reeves ‘gentleman Jim’ has major posthumous chart success. (Aug 20 1923 – July 31 1964)

30th Jan – ‘Needles and pins’ is number 1, written by Sonny Bono who will top the charts as a performer with Cher in 18 months time.

20th Feb – After 19 consecutive top 5 singles, Cliff peaks at 8.

5th March – All the top 10 are UK acts.

30th April – Doris Day’s first top 10 since the 1950’s

7th May – 3 consecutive number 1’s with ‘Love’ in the title.

21st May – ‘Juliet’ is the first girl’s name at the top since ‘tell Laura I love her’ in 1960.

9th July – Elvis’ only week in the top 10 this year.

23rd July – Beatles hit number 1 for a 5th consecutive release (joint record with Elvis) knocking the Rolling Stones off the top with their first of what also will become 5 consecutive number ones.

13th August – ‘I won’t forget you’ is the first single to be in the top 10 when an artist dies. Jim Reeves’ death pushes his singles up the charts.

10th Dec – The Stones are knocked off the top after 1 week by The Beatles for a second consecutive time.
