The Beatles start a run of 11 consecutive number one’s.
Gerry and the Pacemakers become the first act to have their first three singles all go to number one…

7th FEB – The Beatles first top 10 appearance in a chart which includes 9 British acts (and American Shannon)

21st Feb – Frank Ifield becomes the first Brit to complete a hat-trick of number ones.

4th April – Buddy Holly returns to the top 10 four years after his death.

16th May – Billy J. Kramer become the first band to take a Lennon/McCartney cover to the top 10.

13th June – Seventh and final week at the top for ‘From Me To You’ – the longest run of any Beatles single.

13th June – The top 4 are all from Liverpool.

18th July – Frank Ifield scores his 4th number 1.  The 7th act in history (2 of the seven – Elvis and the Shadows are at position 3 and 4 this week)

12th Sept – Beatles are top in the singles, albums and EP charts, a feat they will manage 21 times until May 1965.

28th Nov – ‘She loves you’ returns to the top after a 7 week gap.

12th Dec – The Beatles become the first act to knock themselves off the top, and the first act to hold the top 2 positions.
