10th May – Wonderful Land completes 8 weeks at the top, a record for an instrumental.

10th May – Lonnie Donegan’s 17th and final top 10 hit, at this time only Elvis has more (27)

17th May – Mike Sarne’s hit features Wendy Richard – TV star of EastEnders and more.

14th June – For the only time in his career, Elvis is number 1 in the singles, albums and EP charts.

2nd August – 3 comedy records in the top 10 – Come Outside, Right Said Fred and Speedy Gonzales.

30th August – The final week in the top 10 for Connie Francis – regarded as the leading chart lady in the first ten years of the charts.

27th Sep – Cliff is kept off the top by Elvis for successive releases.

18th Oct – Carole King and her babysitter Little Eva are in positions 2 & 3.

15th Nov – Nat King Cole at number 8 is the only survivor from the first chart ten years ago (14/11/52)

27th Dec – 3 songs in the top 10 with the word ‘dance’ in their title.
